Title:
Do not buy this if you need to work on it.
Product Uses:
travel work
Review:
I bought a laptop, believing that most dell laptops would be variations on a theme. All I need it for is word, excel, powerpoint and emails. With the exception of powerpoint I generally do not need much performance - but I do travel so I personally like light.
This laptop does not have a VGA connection. This makes this product useless if you need to present through projectors which all have VGA connectors as standard. I did not check this on the specification, as to me it is a given. I have reverted to my 4 year old Latitude D420 that is an excellent machine.
As I did not open it for 7 days due to travelling, I am out of the return period. Dell customer services are not good, and kept quoting T&C's that no one in the real world read.
My only solution is either to ebay it, or give it to my 5 year old daughter.
I have changed my view of Dell after this experience.

Overheating, worked around using eSata ext disk.
Product Uses:
media pc, office/studying
Review:
Worked fine for a year, then constant bluescreens. Narrowed down to overheating as happened more often when the Zino was pushed such as video conversion.
Removed the internal hard disk, bought a caddy and connected via external eSATA connection, no problems since.

The Almost Perfect HTPC....
Product Uses:
entertainment pc, work pc, online movie streams, online music streams
Review:
LOVE this purchase...only wish that it has a second PCIe slot to allow the install of a quad-tuner/DVR card which would have then made it perfect. Will be swapping the drive to a 750GB Momentus Hybrid 6GB SSD/eSATA 7200 rpm 2.5 drive with a 3.5 adapter. Did this upgrade on my AMD Quad laptop and it ROCKS.
Love this HTPC in conjunction with my 65" HDTV and wish DEll would have took a longer view on this product and offered consistent marketing support to build the awareness since it makes so much sense in today's wired home.

Title:
Don't buy this dell
Product Uses:
Gaming, school work, office, skype
Review:
It has had more problems in the last 30 days than most laptops would have in there whole lives! 1. It's NOT a good gaming laptop, the graphics card isn't that powerful, oh and it over heats to just under 90'C, so unless you have a wireless games controller you won't even be able to touch it while gaming. 2.It has a really loud fan that is constantly changing speeds making it really annoying to use. 3. The blu-ray/DVD Drive is really lose and keeps opening and feels like it's going to fall out. 4. The USB 3.0 ports randomly disconnect. 5. The Audio Drivers keep crashing, so you have to reboot or and application that requires sound crashes to. 6. Most of the ports are at the back of the laptop making it difficult to plugin/inplug USB 3 devices, HDMI cable, the power cable and Ethernet. Those are most of the problems I have experienced so far. On the brighter side dell support was happy to help, they sent a technician round to replace the heat sink, fan and USB 3 ports. When that made no difference they gave me a refund. I would still think about buying a dell but not a high end laptop.

Excellent Computer
Product Uses:
entertainment, school work
Review:
I've had this computer for almost two years. So far, it has been great. It's fast, easy to use, and has been reliable. Yes, I've had the occasional blue screen, but the computer always seems to correct these problems by itself. I did, however, have a problem with the LCD screen. It kept flashing white, pink, and green. This would cause a blue screen to come up, but it was fixed under warranty. I have no real complaints. This laptop functions much better than I expected.

A GOOD DEAL BUT......................
Product Uses:
work, home, entertainment, talk dirty to it
Review:
For the money, you can't beat it. hands down, Dell still has the best deals going. I have a 10 year old desktop that I bought from Dell and it is still working fine, just a little "out-moded" for today's demands. Hence the new computer. I also have a dell laptop that works very well. The only problem thus far is a design flaw that I am going to have to live with. It concerns the front loading memory card reader. it is set too far back and my average sized hands and fingers have a real tough time grabbing the card to remove it. It is a royal pain in the butt, but not a deal breaker.

Excellent Customer Service and Product
Product Uses:
showcasing my design work
Review:
I purchased this laptop 2 years ago and recently extended my warranty. The keyboard then malfunctioned, I suppose it just happens, no laptop is infallible. However, I want to vouch 100% for their customer service in how they took care of it. I mailed out my laptop 4-1/2 days ago to somewhere on the opposite side of this country. They updated me on the phone when they received it, updated me on the phone when they were done and now, the same week, 4-1/2 days ago, its back in my living room. How can you explain that? NOBODY does it like DELL and I was skeptical believe me. Alienware M11x? How is this little champ, you ask? Its perfect. Power in a small hard package, anti "Frail, Thin", and the look of it just beats everything else out there in this size (most of them small, useless, not powerful silver purse pretenders). A+++

Amazing laptop
Product Uses:
it school work, Gaming
Review:
I must admit that after reading alot of reviews about the M17X R3 I was really scared about purchasing it. There were alot of posts of how the laptop was broke and wasnt configured right and had terrible customer support from Dell, I made the choice and bought it anyway.
On that note I must say that they were completely wrong, this laptop is amazing. It was configured exactly the way I requested and didnt even have any junk pre-installed software. An hour after I signed for my laptop a Dell customer support representitive called me and asked if everything on my order was correct and if I was having any problems. I told him so far everything is fine but im still updating and installing programs. He said he was glad to hear it and will contact me tomorrow to see if anything was wrong. He did and I told him everything was working perfectly.
The delivery time was bad (took a month to get it to me) but that wasnt a big deal, dell gave me next day shipping for free because of the delay.
I use this laptop mainly for school in IT and it requires me to run alot of virtual machines at the same time and this laptop can run 5, thats the most I have needed to use, and it did not slow down the machine at all (31% CPU usage was the highest of the 4 cores). I could even run crysis 2 on medium settings in the background with high FPS (I only got the nvidia 560m card, I know I know but I will upgrade it soon lol).
The really amazing part that I love about this laptop is how easy it is to upgrade the components, every peice of hardware is easily accessible and well placed, and can be upgraded with minimal computer knowledge.
I would recommend this laptop to any of my friends/family.
